On Wednesday 22 of April, we had the privilege of bringing supporters, educators and partners together at the House of Lords to focus on one call to action: how we support 600 career changers to enter the classroom as STEM teachers by 2030.
Hosted by Lord Tarrassenko, we heard from two of our pioneering Now Teachers, Clare Marcer and Duncan Heppell, and one of Duncan's former students. Seeing the impact their prior professional experience has had, was a powerful reminder of why this work makes sense and matters.
In the former students words, “For the first time, I felt seen, I felt heard by a teacher. And that changed everything.”
That momentum continued with the announcement of our new partnership with Purposeful Ventures. Their commitment to improving maths outcomes for young people aligns perfectly with our mission, so their support will help us address the STEM teacher shortage through harnessing the expertise of industry professionals.
Together, these moments felt connected: shared belief, shared ambition, and a community determined to play their role in improving educational outcomes for young people.
As we approach Now Teach’s tenth anniversary year, we are grateful to everyone who continues to believe in and back this mission so that more schools and students benefit from the inspiring professional and life experience of career change teachers.
From our earliest supporters to new partners stepping forward, we have come away feeling both proud of what has been built at Now Teach and energised by what’s possible next.
