The school term has progressed rapidly since my last blog about planning your applications around the school year.
We now find ourselves in the final school term, and while I’m here to reassure you that there are still places available, these will fill up as we move through the term.
If you’ve reached the decision that teaching is the right career change for you, it’s important to act quickly, ideally submitting your application within two weeks, to give yourself the best chance of securing a training place.
I would suggest having half term as a goal, bearing in mind that schools will be on holiday 25th to 29th May, applying before this is ideal.
Summer term applications are less about exploration and more about execution. Training providers are still open, but popular subjects or locations may have already been filled. For example, I know that a popular course provider in Southern England has already reached capacity for their modern foreign languages (MFL) trainees.
To be successful in your applications, it’s important to be organised, focused and ready to move. With Now Teach by your side, guiding you through each step the possibility of starting this September can become a reality.
I’ve put together a helpful timeline and break down of tasks over the 2 weeks:
Week 1
Confirm your decision to train to teach. Research available courses and providers, and check entry requirements carefully (degree classification, GCSEs, subject relevance).
If you require ENIC for overseas certificates, apply now (these can take up to 4 weeks to come back).
Reach out to course providers if you have questions about eligibility, school placements or course clarification and look out for recruitment events they may be hosting.
Draft your personal statement. Focus on why you want to teach, your transferable skills, and any relevant experience.
Week 2
Finalise your choices and submit your application. Be prepared for a quick turnaround. Providers are keen to move candidates through quickly this time of year.
